Manchester United Head Coach Ruben Amorim States He Cannot Escape Disappointing Performance
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim experiences the strain during their 3-1 loss at opponents
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim acknowledges he is unable to hide from his disappointing performance and says it is expected that Old Trafford legends are criticizing him.
Earlier this week, the club's all-time goalscorer Wayne Rooney told his program that "the heart has vanished" from his former team.
The Portuguese manager has secured just 18 victories from his forty-nine games in control, including nine out of thirty-three in the English top flight, where he has yet to record two consecutive wins.
While senior Old Trafford insiders are adamant that the INEOS chief continues to be supportive the manager, failure to defeat recently promoted Sunderland on Saturday will ignite renewed speculation about his position heading into the upcoming two-week international break.
"It is understandable," commented the Portugal-born coach, when questioned about the former striker's comments. "One cannot hide from the results."
"Then you have the history from last season, [although] that period for me is irrelevant."
Fan Reaction and Present Circumstances
Manchester United's fans stayed supportive of Amorim following the previous campaign's poor fare, when they finished fifteenth in the league - their lowest performance since the 1973/74 demotion season - and were defeated in the European showpiece, in the hope that the current campaign would be significantly improved.
Amorim promised fans the position would get better because he had greater opportunity to work with his squad without the midweek distraction of European football.
That is not how the initial six fixtures have developed as Manchester United have suffered 3 losses so far and sit 14th in the league.
Manager's Reaction to Concerns
When asked what assurances he could offer fans that the position will get better, the manager added: "This is not the moment to say, it is the moment to show."
"I look at the matches in the current campaign and, for me, they are totally varied, but I have little to add at the current time."
- Manchester United currently occupy 14th place in the Premier League
- The manager has won just eighteen of his forty-nine games in charge
- The former striker recently criticized the team's present situation
- The upcoming match against their opponents is crucial for Amorim's future
