Zambia's Daka Grabs Stoppage-Time Equaliser for Zambia Versus Mali at Afcon.

Patson Daka celebrating his crucial goal

The Leicester City forward halted a 20-month goal barren run for Zambia with his last-gasp header in Casablanca.

Patson Daka emerged as the hero for Chipolopolo as his injury-time header secured a thrilling 1-1 draw against Mali at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Casablanca.

Eagles Seize First-Half Control

The Malian attacker had broken the deadlock just after the hour mark in the Group A clash at the Stade Mohammed V, lashing home from point-blank range after his first effort from a set-piece had been blocked.

The Eagles controlled the tempo and were awarded an opportunity to go in front in the final moments of the first half after Nene Dorgeles was brought down in the box by Chipolopolo defender Matthews Banda.

The designated penalty taker took responsibility for the Eagles but his low effort was expertly kept out by Zambia shot-stopper Willard Mwanza.

Daka's Heroic Response

Daka later salvaged a draw for the 2012 Afcon winners, who were for the most part dominated by the robust play of their opponents until Banda's lofted cross was pounced upon by the attacker.

Group A Table

This draw means both sides a couple of points behind host nation the Atlas Lions in the group standings after Morocco claimed victory in their first match 2-0 against Comoros on Sunday.

Chipolopolo will stay in the city to play their second fixture against Comoros on the coming Friday, while Mali travel to Rabat for a crucial match against Morocco.
